poor farm

Brian Frink and Wilbur Neushwander-Frink purchased the Blue Earth County Poor Farm in 1998. Two miles south of Mankato Minnesota the nine-thousand square foot structure is situated on five acres of land surrounded by forests, fields and ravines.

The county of Blue Earth built the poor farm in 1877. An addition was built in 1911 bringing its resident population up to forty-four individuals. In 1955 the Blue Earth County sold the poor farm and it became the Oak Grove Retirement home. In 1987 it became a private residence.

Since 1998 the Frinks have engaged in extensive renovations. Their vision has been to create a place for an active creative life. Over the years they have hosted musical recitals, poetry readings, art exhibitions, political fundraisers and many, many celebrations.
